TINY HOUSE TOURS **(3:00-4:00pm)
As the first tiny house hotel in the world, Caravan provides our guests a unique opportunity to experience tiny house living in the heart of the Alberta Arts District in Portland. Since Caravan opened in the summer of 2013, we’ve opened our gate to thousands of people in an effort to educate the public about the tiny house movement, tiny house building and living, and other forms of small housing such as Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs).
At our Tiny House Tours, attendees will hear a brief presentation by the owners of Caravan about tiny houses, the tiny house movement, the history of Caravan, and technical, legal, environmental and economics aspects of living tiny. Kol & Deb, the owners of Caravan, have backgrounds in and passion for education, urban planning and environmental and social justice, which has prompted them to utilize Caravan to showcase possibilities for small housing to the public. Interest in and awareness of tiny houses is steadily growing across the country and the world, causing hundreds of people to come to Caravan each week to see inside our unique, custom-made tiny houses. To address this growing demand, we open up to the public on selected Sundays for our Tiny House Tours.
We may have a local builder or tiny house dweller speak, as well as a Q&A and group discussion afterwards. Caravan staff will be stationed at the tiny houses to point out the unique design features of each tiny house and answer questions. Anywhere from 4-6 tiny houses will be open during each tour, depending on availability.
