Caravan is a tiny house hotel, but we're fans of all types of small, alternative, infill housing options, specifically Accessory Dwelling Units, or ADUs. ADUs are secondary housing units built on single-family residential lots. The City of Portland has witnessed an eight-fold rise in the number of ADU permits since 2010 as a result of a 2010 City of Portland waiver of System Development Charges, saving homeowners up to $14,000 in fees till July, 2016.
In partnership with the City of Portland, Metro, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, Earth Advantage, and Energy Trust of Oregon, Caravan has been running citywide tours of ADUs since 2014. The tours are for people interested in learning more about ADUs and meeting the homeowners, builders, and designers who built them. In June of 2015, Caravan hosted a two-day ADU Tour that drew 2,400 people from 12 states on the self-guided tour of 25 ADUs across Portland. On November 7th, 2015, Caravan hosted the third citywide ADU Tour. Learn more about the ADU Tours http://accessorydwellings.org/adu_tour.
